Malcom Wright

My work can only be described as eclectic, from the materials and methods, to the forms and surfaces. the source of my inspiration comes from many directions and periods, both from the East and West. I am interested in the source of an idea, how a soft round form or angular geometric form can both carry the same thrust of the original thought.

Malcolm was born in Minnesota, with a BA from Marlboro College, and MFA from George Washington University and apprenticeship ot twelfth generation Japanese potter Taroueman Nakazato in Karatsu, Japan, Malcolm Wright has brought to his work a diversity of sources. through experiment and practice, this diversity-function, abstract expressionism, minimalism, and futurism-has melded into an uniquely individual approach where the hand and mind meet, and where art and craft merge. He has exhibited at Gallery Dai Ichi in New York, Genovese/Sullivan Gallery, Boston, and Gallery Manyodo, Tokyo as well as museum shows at the Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, MA; Denver Museum of Art; Blanden Memorial Art Museum in Ft. Dodge, IA; and the Huntington Museum of Art, Huntington, WV. His work is in the collections of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Denver Art Museum, Idemistu Museum, Urasenke Society of New York, as well as other public and private collections throughout the world,. He has been featured in a variety of publications, local, national and international and been a longtime champion of the wood-fire process.
